We Believe

Calvary Lutheran is a community of Christians in Medford, New Jersey. We are a member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

We believe the Bible is the authoritative, inerrant Word of God. We believe we are created and loved by God; we are saved from our sins by the Lord Jesus Christ, who truly is God incarnate and truly a human being, through His death and resurrection. We live dependent on God for every area of our lives. Our response is to take Christ to the nations, to all people, to love them, pray for them, and to make the love of Christ known in our churches, communities, and the world.

In Baptism we are promised salvation through faith as a gift, and given the gift of the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins and strengthening of our faith and life.

Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Mission Statement

In grateful response to God’s grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacraments, the mission of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is vigorously to make the love of Christ by word and deed known within our churches, communities and the world.

Additional resources regarding beliefs of the LCMS and its member churches, are available at LCMS Beliefs.

Outreach/Community Involvement

Jesus commands us to be His hands, feet and voice to all, especially those who suffer. Members of Calvary Lutheran Church live out that command by hosting or participating in activities around Medford and Burlington County. We engage in the following activities to help respond to the needs of others, and to talk to people about God’s love for them and to invite them to attend any activities at Calvary. All are invited to attend and work with us.

For example:

* Each month, following Sunday service we have a luncheon to take time to encourage one another, and enjoy a potluck lunch together. All are welcome, even if you cannot attend the earlier worship service. The luncheon began in 2022 when members gathered on Wednesdays in Lent. It provided such a good time for fellowship and getting to know each other that very shortly it was continued as a monthly Fellowship Luncheon, and having food drew in more attendees. Some months have a theme, such as Pastor Appreciation in October.

*Calvary participates in the annual “Dickens Festival” located on Main Street in Medford by hosting a booth where children can decorate different seasonal craft items and adults can learn about our church. The festival is sponsored by the local business owners which form the Main Street Merchants.

*Each Tuesday, an AA group meets and Pastor Small provides a Bible study for interested attendees.

*Calvary members participate in the annual “Stamp Out Hunger” 5K Run/Walk-A-Thon sponsored by ShopRite store. Registration fees go directly to the Food Bank of South Jersey which provides immediate assistance for the problem of hunger in South Jersey.

*Calvary hosts a picnic in the yard outside the church to which the neighbors are invited.

*We collect food for the Christian Caring Center , a ministry of compassion in Burlington County. Their mission is to carry out the words of Jesus “What you do for the least of these, you do for me.” by bringing tangible evidence of God’s love and hope to people going through tough times.

*Calvary hosts a clothing donation box provided by Turnkey Enterprises, LLC, a company which collects and recycles clothing (to continue being used as clothing). The box is located at the end of the parking lot.
